Today is one of those days I have been fearing for years… yes years.
You see Richard has been caring and supporting Thomas for years…a total of seven years for Richard and 4 years for his partner Karina.
In mid-February, I attended a workshop in Denver when I received their resignation email/ letter from them.
Initially I was shocked. I could feel my sadness. The tears flowed.
Deep down I knew why it had come to this, every part of my being knew why.
Over the past 4 to 5 months Thomas had become more and more aggressive towards them. The more they tried to implement behavioural strategies, the more he pushed them away, resulting in injuries, hospital visits and embarrassing situations.
When I reflected on this, Thomas was trying to tell them and me something. I believe what he was communicating through his behaviour even though they loved him, they needed to follow their hearts desires in their chosen paths being a yoga teacher and a photographer. Not being his support team. He wanted that for them. He wants them to be his friends not his support workers.
This is the end of one chapter in their journey together. The next chapter will begin soon I am sure.
Love runs so deep, that we can hurt the ones we love the most.
My hope is that over time a new relationship will emerge after a period to allow the old behavioural conditioning to dissolve.
Thank you, Richard and Karina, for your unconditional love for Thomas. Here’s to the emergence of a new relationship.
